Well, it's been one week with Covey already, the days are melting into themselves. This morning I had to ask Julia what day it was because I had no idea, she told me it was Friday....so I put the garbage out....then I realized she didn't know what day it was either. Thank goodness for calendars, am I right? Okay, I'm lying, but seriously where does the time go? We currently live somewhat of a hermit lifestyle, we've only left the house for two doctor visits and last night after it was dark I went to Walmart. I only mention going after dark because lately whenever Julia and I see the light of day our first instinct is to hiss, so we avoid it.
Anywho, back to the matter at hand, Covington is one week old. That's nuts! His due date was today actually. The little tike just keeps growing, as evidenced by the mugshot above. Some events of note were the falling off of both his umbilical cord and circumcision ring, and his first visit to his pediatrician. The Larsons recommended Dr. Moshkin...uh Mushfin...er Moskun (thanks Jules) to us and she was great. I think her name is Slavic in case you were wondering. We learned his jaundice had gone down, so that was a relief.
Covey's first ride in a car seat. Thanks to the Nick and Stacey we have a car seat, a stroller, and a bassinet. They've been so generous. Nick keeps telling me that one day he'll come to me in need of a favor that I will not be able to refuse and at that time we'll make amends....whatever that means. I think it's something he learned in Italy.
Covey and I watching our first basketball game together. He likes to visualize what's going to happen next...sometimes I think he's just sleeping. And speaking of sleeping check out the next three pics below.

Notice a trend? We call this the Marty McFly sleeping position, it's how Covey unwinds after a busy day. We've learned not to interrupt this personal time, unless it's vitally important. Grandpa Meldrum paid Covey a visit the other day, and though the picture may not show it, Covey was beside himself with excitement to see him (trust us).
Leanna Bingham also stopped in for a visit. It was great to see her again and hear tales of her many travels and adventures. Covey adored her, and we think the feeling was mutual. She is always welcome in our home, no matter what people may say.
The two most important people in the world to me. Cov loves it when we sing to him, especially mom. Unfortunately the song selections are limited to a handful of primary songs and TV theme songs from our childhood, where we just replace certain names with Covey's to make the songs work for us.
Every now and then Covey can look at you, and it's like, well it's like he's looking right through you. It's as if he's saying, "Of the two of us, you're actually the smaller person." It's quite degrading really.

Covey would have our legs broke if he knew we'd posted this, so please don't tell him. (Julia says with eyes rolling "like father, like son")
Hi... this is Julia now. I just wanted to write about the first time I really, really felt like a mom. We had a Dr. apt. on Monday where they retested Covey for jaundice . Anyway, they had me hold him while they had to prick his heel. I was scared it was going to hurt him and as I was trying to comfort him (even though he slept right through it) and it made me think about all the times in the future that I'll have to hold his hand through something painful. All the doctor and dentist appointments and injuries. It really hit me that I'm this little guy's mom and it'll be my job to be there for him whenever he's hurting. I don't know if I described it well, but it was a pretty powerful feeling.
