March 2014 Scottsdale

Here's how we had to take our meals all of March. We got rid of our old table, bought a new one, sent it back, ordered a new one and had to wait for it to be delivered. I should have found kimonos and turned it into a Japanese culture learning experience.

Covey doesn't mind...

He's trying to convince Finn to be cool with it...

"See Finn? It's funny!"

Aaaand there we go. Now it's hilarious. :)

Finn got very into being a cowboy this month.

Covey's preschool program on the computer (Rusty and Rosie) had him make a to-do list.

On our way to Scottsdale, AZ for Dad's Radiology conference! We left sometime around 1:00 in the morning, I think.

Such a trooper!

The middle of noooooowhere.

We had to spend our time somehow while Dad was in classes, so we went for a little exploration...

... but it looks like I'm going to have to bribe them to smile...

They needed  a shade break.

It really was hot there already in March. But what I loved was the smell in the air. It smelled like flowers wherever we went! After the winter, it was invigorating and refreshing to be in this warm, sweet-smelling air. Matt and I even had a discussion about how nice it would be when we're old to have a winter house there and have one of the grandkids come stay with us for part of it.

Dad found us waiting for him and took us to lunch. There was a half hour wait, so he played tag with the boys while we waited.

I love the joy on Finn's face! (Thank heavens for dads!)

The people sitting next to us inside, kept talking about how cute Finn was and were trying to get his attention and talk to him. He got very shy all of a sudden.

Then, it was off to the Railroad Park! Look out, Finn! You look a little unstable...

This was the train museum.

And a big building filled with model trains. It was pretty cool!

And then we better go on a real train ride...

Mom was waiting with ice-cream cones when they got off. Like I said, it was hot!

I love to see Finn's little squishiness in these pictures. He doesn't have it like that anymore. :(

I love Finn's full on swinging his arms run here:

The next day was Covey's 5th birthday!! It's not quite the same when you're celebrating in a hotel room, but he didn't complain. He was super excited to wake up and find this!

He opened his new baseball bat and his card from the Meldrums in the morning.

Then, he wanted to swim.

We got cleaned up and he opened his mystery minion packs.

And when Dad got back from his classes, we went to play arcade games.

Then, Covey chose to go to the movies and see The Lego Movie (again).
We stopped at a grocery store on the way home and got Covey "a big, chocolate cake" per his instructions and some ice cream. We went back to the hotel, ate his treats and finished opening presents. He got baseball gear, new clothes, a couple books, a movie, a watch, and his big present was waiting for him at home.

Then next day, we went to a Cubs training game. Since we couldn't take our camera inside, this is the only shot I got. It was a little crazy while we were packed in like sardines. But they played so badly that halfway through a lot of people left and then the boys had room to move around.

We swam every day. Covey had to be rescued from a stranger when he decided he didn't need his tube in the deep end (scary!) And on the way home, we decided to stop at the Grand Canyon (south rim).

It was cool! I don't remember ever going to the south rim before. This tower is super cool.

Drawing his favorite part of the view in the visitor's center book...

(the date was really 3-14-14)

And back in the car for the ride home.

Papa Mike came over to celebrate Covey's birthday in his own Papa Mike way... with cupcakes...

And presents!

Showing grandpa their souvenir rocks from the Grand Canyon.

Time to try out his new, shiny red bike!

And if you were paying attention to Covey's to-do list, next was Dad's birthday! This cooling pillow was the one thing he really wanted.

And the next day he got to play in the BEHS alumni tournament.

At the end of the month, I got to go to the Women's Conference with my grandma, while the boys stayed at her house and played with her cool retro toys. So fun!

Looks like you took the first item on Covey's to-do list seriously. I didn't know you went to the Grand Canyon. Awesome!
