Family of Four!

Finn Michael Nelson was born Wednesday, May 2nd at 5:02 pm at LDS Hospital. He weighed 9 lbs 3 oz and is 22 inches long. He came out pink and crying and is healthy and perfect! We got to the hospital at 7:30 in the morning to induce labor. He was only 1 day past his due date but I knew he was going to be big and we wanted to have him here for as much of Matt's 2 weeks off school as we could. I was so nervous about inducing! But I really didn't need to be. Everything went perfectly. In fact, when they first hooked me up we found out that I was having my own contractions 4 minutes apart. I couldn't feel them though, but it meant I only needed "a nudge" of Pitocin to get things rolling. They also broke my water and I slowly but surely progressed until about 3:00 when things really picked up.  By then the baby had moved down low enough to activate some new nerves that the epidural wasn't working on, so I had about an hour of pretty good pain, but by the time Dr Ward arrived and I was dilated to a 10 the epidural was working again. I gave 3 rounds of pushing, probably 10 minutes worth, and out he was! I couldn't believe it! I pushed for an hour and a half with Covey and was so shocked that it was that easy this time!
Speaking of Covey, he was so good just hanging out playing on Grandma's iPad during all the festivities. He was able to go out and explore and get ice-cream with Papa Mike when the time came to push. He helped Grandma Lori pick out a Winnie the Pooh and Papa Mike pick out a balloon and jammies for Finn. When he came in to see him he was so excited. He was squealing with excitement and touching his face so softly. He still is loving him and always concerned where he is and what he's doing. He fully accepts that babies cry and doesn't seem to mind at all. Whenever he had been out and came back into our room he'd say, "Finn? Finn! Where are you? Finn?" until he found him and gave him a hug and a kiss.
Finn is seriously so perfect. I was hoping he'd look like Covey and he totally does. I can tell there will be some differences but you'll definitely be able to tell that they're brothers. The biggest difference is just that Covey had a ton more hair on top of his head, whereas most of Finn's is in the back (mullet anyone?). But the color is the same and he's got hairy arms and legs and back, like a little man. He has the cutest squeaky cry. He is nursing so much better than Covey did and that makes everything so much easier.
This first picture is blurry I know. I wanted one of me and Covey in front of the hospital but our camera's focus wasn't working. Oh, well.

Hour 1, Julia has just settled in and refuses to leave until Finn comes out. On the left you see Shannon, the world's greatest nurse. (yeah, I said it Florence Nightingale, what are you going to do about it?) She made the whole process so much easier. We didn't show a picture of her face cause we don't want anyone to hog her the next time we have a child at LDS.
From Julia's face in the last pic, to ours in the next wouldn't you say we all seem delighted? We might as well be sitting at the movies. Little did we know this movie was to be a horror movie like no other!!! Just kidding. I guess Julia already mentioned how smooth everything went at the beginning of this post. Come on Julia, spoiler alert!

This is Grandma Lori with Covey. Lori is learning to read, we're all so proud!
Seriously, Lori was a great help and was with us pretty much all day. Her iPad was a big part of Covey keeping entertained. Thanks G-ma! Notice Covey flashing a gang sign. Betta' watch 'cho back!

While Lori was trying to hold still for the next picture we switched out Covey for Finn and
she didn't even notice!

Julia's first moment of "having her hands full", a small taste of things to come.
Covey is working on his "homework".
We had to put socks on Finn's hands cause he kept stealing things.
He's quite wiley actually....like his old man.

Seen here: Finn telling Dad to shave his face. Dad telling Finn to shave his back. Their first stand off.

Three greatest people on the face of the earth. (Sorry to everyone not seen in this picture)

Covey was so soft and gentle with his new baby brother. It was a moment Julia and I will never forget.

A brother's love.

Not sure, but I think those 9 lbs and 3 oz are causing Covey to lose feeling in his legs.

This is Finn in the nursery. What you can't see is the newborn girl that he's flexing for.

Covey found a nice thinking spot in the closet of our room. If normal living doesn't work out for Covey, I think he's got a good fallback as a shut-in. That kid likes hiding places!

Grandma Meldrum stopped in for visit.

Covey and I went home each night so he could get some sleep. In the morning he was always quick out of bed and anxious to get up to the hospital so see Mom and Finn.

In his carseat for the first time! So hard to open his eyes! Too bad for you guys, cause he's got great eyes.

So many more pics we don't have! My dad (Finn's middle name sake) and sister and the Nelsons were all there that day but the pics were taken with someone else's camera.

We came home Friday afternoon and things have been just great! Finn fits in perfectly with this little family. Ah, newborn bliss! I love it and don't want it to ever end.
