"Is it spooooky and scaaaaary?"

Halloween was a super great time. But, I was a little relieved when the real day finally came becuase I felt like we'd been talking about Halloween for months.

It started with Grandma Lori's Halloween part-ay. She was dressed in a very clever (and creepy!) "witch doctor" costume. Mmmmm. She put on quite a spread and it was delish! Here she is hiding the bones for the bone hunt.

Covey and Lucie during the bone hunt. Getting reaquainted. (So cute together!)

Katie's family were all dressed from Alice in Wonderland, but my favorite had to be her as the Queen of Hearts. (Although Ella's too small (and riding up, if you know what I mean) Tweedle Dee costume was a close second.)

Covey was the cutest train engineer ever. It turns out Matt was a train engineer around the same age! Here they are side by side.

The next week was the ward's Trunk or Treat. Papa Mike came over to play before-hand which resulted in zero desire to go to the trunk or treat and a lot of begging to stay home and play with grandpa...

But, we got him there and he loved it. He got a prize at the fishing pond,

met up with his buddy "Simba",

and even went through the "spook alley"! We waited in a long line for it and half the "trunks" were out of candy by the time we got out. But Covey kept asking to go back, so it's a good thing we did it. Here he is waiting in line with our neighbors, the adorable Gunn boys.

Matt humored me by being a trian conductor. (Thank you Meldrums!)

Inspecting his loot.

Next was a trip up to the farm. We got together to celebrate some family birthdays. Covey gets very excited about going there and can't wait to get on the tramp. I thought this pic of him and his Aunt Deb was kinda funny.

Covey and Jensen on a pumpkin hunt!

Grandpa was nice enough to take him on a tractor ride.

Uncle Kade helping him pick apples.

Whenever anybody asked Covey what he was going to be for Halloween, he told them "A Ghost!" Even after he'd dressed up as the engineer twice! So, I thought I should probably fulfill his dream. On Halloween day during his nap, I threw together a new costume. I thought it'd make getting his costume on a lot easier. First we made "Mockey" (his blanket) into a ghost. Then it was his turn. I was wrong. It was still a huge struggle with a lot of (black) tears. But, when it was all said and done, he was the CUTEST ghost I'd ever seen!

To encourage Covey, Matt got dressed up too. He is such a good sport!

Haunting the streets of Castleton.

Next, we fought a lot of traffic and finally arrived at the 'UP' house in Herriman. (from the Pixar movie) It was so stinking cute! And worth every minute getting there.

'Dug' was outside, just as sweet as can be. He had on a motion sensor recording on his collar so when you walked by he said his lines from the movie!
Inside, Covey got to meet 'Mr. Fredrickson' and 'Russell'.

Another family had made these costumes, can you believe it? They were so cute.

Covey loved it so much there he wouldn't leave! Not even for trick or treating! We humored his as long as we could and then made him leave. This was his reaction.

Tears followed on the way to the car, but pretty soon one of the workers from the house caught up to us and said Covey was so special they wanted to award him with the 'Ellie Badge' (the grape soda top pin). She pinned it on him and I felt as proud as if he'd gotten his first trophy.
Covey was the cutest thing I've ever seen running up to door after door, knocking with his little fist, making small talk with whoever answered, and ending with either "thank you" or "happy halloween" as he headed down the steps. He definately earned his candy. Everyone thought he was so cute and funny and loved hearing him talk about their decorations or what he could see going on inside their house.

My precious little ghost. I hope I always remember how special that night was watching such a little boy be such a big kid.
Some funny things he's started to say lately are: "Is that a deal, mommy?" and "How 'bout this song?" and then spurting off some made up song like "doo-bi-doo-bi-doo-bi".

Wow. I didn't know what I was missing. Love the two generation train engineers and ghosts. What a precious family you have. What a lucky little boy on the way.
