When we got back from Texas, I decided it was time to get busy potty training. I have been against the idea of a little potty (just extra mess to clean up) but Covey seemed so uncomfortable and hated going on it, so I caved and bought him his own potty. I told him if he went on it, I'd make him a cake. It didn't take long! It was just a matter of sitting on it for hours until something happened.
Sorry if you don't like seeing kids on potties... it's a little weird, I admit, but marks the occasion and he did give me a good smile!
As promised, that night we made a cake, put up decorations and had some friends over to celebrate! Covey loved it all.
Unfortunately, the potty lost its luster after a week. Covey started saying "I DON'T like my potty!" I'm not sure if it's the smart thing to do or not but I've decided to put it off until winter, after the holidays, when we don't have anything else going on.
Covey's been super excited for Halloween. We have library books that talk about ghosts and goblins, so that's what he's been talking about too! We've tried to be very careful about what we say or let him see but he's still learned to say "That pumpkin s-s-scared me!" etc. We made this little Halloween garland one night and it's still intact! Covey loves "Decorations!"Covey went to his first Aggie football game (first Aggie game of any kind)! Dad was so excited to have him there. Covey's cousin, Jensen, has been going for years and is an old pro. He had a set of cars there and they spent most of the time playing with those. When Covey first saw the players making a play, he said "They're bonking!" ("bonking" is what Covey calls running at you and hitting you full force with his belly) We were right next to the band and whenever they played he'd dance. After the game, we walked back to the car in the dark and Covey kept saying "There's something in the trees." (which were blowing in the wind) "The trees s-s-scare me!" (I don't know where he learned to stutter the word "scare"??) Then slid in a puddle of mud just before getting in the car. And did I mention the Aggie lost?
Then, out came the Halloween box from the garage. As I was sifting through for decorations, Covey found his costume from last year, Mickey Mouse! He wanted it on right away and wore it for most of the day. If anyone missed him last year, this is basically how he looked... just a little less leg.... and no Easter basket!
Last Friday was my mom's birthday! Covey and I went to her house and spent most of the day with her. It was wonderful. Grandma needed some of Covey's help blowing out her trick candles!
And this is his 2 1/2 yr. pic that my mom took last month and has found its place in our last empty frame on the living room wall. Hooray!
Covey has been wanting to make a jack-o-lantern so much, so we decided to do one Saturday, even if it will die before Halloween. It was so much fun. And Covey wanted to be Mickey again which brought a bit of whimsy to the affair. (I can't get over how good he's smiling here. Normally when I tell him to smile it's that really hard "cheese" but this one's perfect!)
Here's the finished product. I could NOT figure out why the top of the pic kept being dark until I realized duh! I was wearing a witch's hat while taking it! ...Which Covey loved and now I must wear it each night when we go out to light the jack. So... neighbors, don't worry about me. I'm just humoring a 2 yr old!
Covey's holding a spatula for some reason known only to him.
Sunday we went to our friends' house for dinner. Covey went as a very boho chic stud muffin. His new beanie that only fits on half his head and a new ouchie on his chin doubling as a soul patch. We're often delighted at how good he can look despite us!Covey has gotten very good at his "job". Here's his finished product. Only one or two upside down!
Things are going great for us! Just loving this time of year! Covey is at the best age ever and delights me often throughout the day. He tells jokes, he tells me my eyes or hair look good (aahh), and is so sweet and affectionate.
School has turned it up a notch on Matt and he's adjusting to increased work load. But he's doing great and I'm proud of him.

Love the post! How cute is that Covey... love that boy. It was so nice spending time with you and Covey for my birthday... and thanks for the cake and potatoe soup, they were both delish!!!
So cute. Thank you both so much for coming yesterday. Made my WHOLE day. You might want to try leaving the potty somewhere he can see it but don't say a word about it. He might just decide to give it a try sometimes when there's no-pressure. Looks like we now have a prince of Halloween. How are you and mom going to pull off the goblin thing? Our Halloween royalty demands it.
Love all those pics. You do great!! I love the Mickey costume.....our kids always want to wear the same thing they wore the year before. Hope you guys are doing good. We sent an announcement for Dave's graduation...YEA he is finally almost done!!! I hope I had the right address. Oh, and don't stress the potty thing..he will go when he is ready. It took Jackson a few tries, and he does great now. Miss you guys...go Aggies!!
