Fundraisers, Texas, and Ending Summer

Whew. Getting all those pictures on here took forever. It's been an awfully long time since I updated.
This summer was such a blur. I can't believe it's over! The first half of the summer was full of fundraiser planning for my niece, Faye. The second half was spent in Texas with her family.
Our first fundraiser was the 'Nation Station' at Riverdale's Old Glory Days on the 4th of July. It was a modgepodge of services and products. We sold raffle tickets for prizes donated from businesses, jewelry, glo sticks, patriotic accessories for kids, pop, candy bars, neck chillers, face painting, nail painting, hair color, and hair bling strands. We had lots of family show up to help us and it was a great day!

Matt and I setting the booth up. I was a little sad to miss seeing Covey at the parade because I needed to stay with the booth. But they told me he loved it and covered his ears when the sirens went by.

That night we drove up on the bench to Eaglewood Golf Course and watched the NSL fireworks. It was so much fun and such a pretty view. Covey made friends with a family nearby and rolled down the hill with their kids. When the 'works were over, he decided he'd rather be in their big family and followed them to their car.

I strangely couldn't find any of my still shots from the next fundraiser. So here's the video if you haven't seen it. This was our big 'Fight for Faye' fundraiser on July 9th. It ended up being a really huge to-do. Two news stations even showed up. We had a 5K, yard sale, kid carnival, silent auction, entertainment, food and drinks, and video of Faye playing. It's a good experience to have under your belt but it was a RELIEF when it was over!

I had a  couple of weeks after the fundraisers before heading off to Texas. We filled it with Covey's first corn-on-the-cob (he liked it!)...

...the new splash pad by our house opening...

...and Little Valley Days in Mantua. Here's Covey (drinking) with all his Nelson cousins. The little ones, anyway.

On Uncle Adam's pony.

Then, on July 23rd, we packed up our stuff and headed to the airport.

I was sad for Covey to have to say bye to his dad. Matt stayed with us through the line at Security. It was a double whammy 'cause that was when they made us put "Mockey", his blanket, through the x-ray. But, as soon as he got it back, he was ok and kept talking about how "Mockey went through a tunnel!"

Covey really loves the old Donald Duck (with Chip n Dale) cartoons, so we loaded up Matt's iPod, borrowed some headphones and it made a world of difference in our travel day!

...Which was very long because we had to fly to Denver before continuing to Houston. And the flight was delayed so our 3 hr layover became a 4 and a half hour layover. What did I do with a 2 yr old for 4 and a half hours in an airport? Lots of escalator rides. Lots of running on the moving walkways. Traveling on the airport train. Searching for the "pet park" which ended up being a fenced in 4x10 sandbox by the parking garage. Reading books outside by the "pet park". Going back through Security for the fun of it. Getting a lovely fast food lunch. (I hate fast food.) Letting Covey explore. Changing diapers. And more Donald Duck watching. Whew!

I bought new toys that I was hoping I could save for Christmas but had just in case Covey needed them in the plane. Of course he did!

We got to Houston safe and who came to see us at Baggage Claim? Three super awesome dudes that we were SO happy to see! (My brother, Nick, and his boys, Mitchell and Nixon) Covey went from blah to hyper in 3 seconds flat!

I was there to take care of Mitchell and Nixon during the week like I did in May, but having Covey along made it a lot harder this time. ...An interesting sidenote about Texas in the summer... No Cold Tap Water! All hot all the time.

Nixon!

I'm sure Covey liked having a big kid who could do the heavy lifting to make this possible!

Faye even got to come home from the hospital while I was there! She is so funny. She makes the cutest facial expressions when she talks and cracks me up. She loves to play house and even "married" Covey one day! Covey wasn't sure about the commitment...

I let Covey pick out his outfit for the first time. I thought it was a funny result!

Covey's always been very indifferent towards babies. When we first got there he'd hardly look at Nixon. But the longer we stayed, the more attached to him he got. If Nixon was laying on the floor, Covey'd be by him. He'd bring me his binkies or put one in his mouth. He'd make sure he had his blanket. And laugh whenever he was looking at him. It was sooooo cute.

A couple of nights, Covey declared he was a baby. He wanted a bottle and to crawl and be just like Nixon. I humored him the first night but tried to not let him keep it up.
Faye had these little "squinkies" toys and out of all of them Covey picked out the little baby and it's bottle. She had plenty of regular dolls to play with but he didn't care about those. He liked his squinky baby and bottle. He always had them in his hand.

Mitchell started back up at school (first grade) while we were there.

He's so lucky, his dad even made him a Perry the Platypus sandwich for his first day!

I didn't get any pictures of Stacey for some reason. But it was so good to see her, too. She is such a good wife and mother. When she's home on the weekends she's just a whirlwind of projects and work and no relaxing from what I remember. And so so nice to us. We totally love that girl.

Matt was there with us in Texas for 2 out of the 5 weeks. But we were still extremely happy to see him when we got home (Aug 26th). The first thing we wanted to do in Utah? Go to the zoo to see Covey's dinosaurs. He talks about them all the time and they were leaving at the end of August. So we hurried up there.

This is Covey watching people get sprayed with water by one of the dinosaurs.

This is how Covey gets up the nerve to see his favorite dino, T-Rex...

Cowering behind Daddy...

...Just sitting and watching from a safe distance...

...Making sure Dad's safe first...

...and Success!

He likes how his eyes move. (The whole thing moves and roars, too, if you haven't been there.)

On Labor Day we met the Meldrums for a picnic. It was a great time!

Catch it "Wucy"!

My Uncle Jay and Aunt Jody who live in Jenks, OK stopped by on their way to BYU-Idaho. It was such a fun treat to have them there. Not to mention getting to see great-grandma Meldrum! We love you!
Now we're all caught up! I'll try to be a bit more on the ball. Matt's back in school for his second semester of PA school. It's going well. Although I think it's totally WEIRD that the students have to take their shirts off and practice surface anatomy and physicals on each other. So So Awkward. But it must be done apparantly. Next up for me and Covey should be potty training and planning a costume for Halloween. (Probably not in that order.) Yay for Fall! ...And Yay for Utah, for that matter! It's 75 degrees outside. We have 5 parks and a splashpad within walking distance. (And cold tap water.) Life is good.

I remember trying to give Covey his first corn on the cob and you said NO because it goes right through him. 2 1/2 is REEdiculous, but I'm glad he's all cornified now. Covey looks just like Kevin on our wedding day. I love that picture and the one of Nixon with the big eyes. Too cute! Glad you're back to blogging.
