Monday night I returned home from my 5 day, 5 night, 5 people in an Impala for over 3,000+ miles,(breath) road trip to Chicago to see my sister. I went with my brothers Jason, Adam, Buzz, and my sister Emily. We decided to save money and time by driving the 23 hour trip (one way) in one "foul" swoop. Mission accomplished.
My sister has cancer and has been through a very tough time over the past year or more. We decided she could use our support and love, and thus the insane, hair-brained road trip plans.
It was good to see Shawna and her family. Hopefully we didn't drive them too crazy this past weekend, but it was worth the trouble of getting there. Shawna is such an awesome big sister, and always has been. There are so many things about my life that she has had a hand in and because they're such a part of me I don't realize the half of them. My favorite part of the trip was the hour and a half that I got to spend with her alone while the others left the house for lunch. It may not have felt like much to her, but it meant the world to me. I love her so much.
We did a quick driving tour of Chicago on Saturday. We walked around Wrigley Field, drove by Soldier field, and ran into the Lincoln Park Zoo for a half hour to see the Gorillas. Why a half hour? Well the zoo is free, but parking isn't....unless you're there for under 30 minutes. The guy in the booth acted like we'd beat the system as we pulled out, but only because...we had.
On the way home we made a stop in Rock Springs. There at the truck stop I saw a familiar face, but I couldn't figure out how I knew him. We passed each other a couple of times, then finally I said, "I'm sorry, but I feel like I know you." He said he was from Idaho, so I decided he just looked like someone I knew. He asked where I was from and I said North Salt Lake. To which he replied, "maybe you've seen me on KJZZ, I'm on the Joseph Smith Papers program." I tried to cover my idiotic tracks so I said, "well I guess I watch your show so much, I feel like I know you." Open mouth....insert foot.

So Jules and I saw this Target commercial tonight and um....yeah, the kid on here is me as a child. We both instantly looked at each other in surprise. No joke, there's some kid out there that has my childhood face!

That is very cool of you guys to take the trip to go visit your sister. Our thoughts and prayer are with you and her. Side note: how much money are you raking in for that commercial?
What a great post! I am sure your sister loved it, what a great memory to get to spend time with all of your siblings! And that kid totally looks like you, and then as I saw the other pictures of you, Covey looks like you too...that is hilarious!
Think of all the money you could have been making as a child-star. There's still hope for Covey. I'm so glad you got to see your sister. We will keep her in our prayers.
I'm so glad you got to spend time with your sister...I'm sure it meant a lot to her that you were all there. So...Covey totally looks like you in that second picture! Maybe you can get him on a Target commercial as that kids younger brother!
cha-ching!!!!
I am so sorry to hear that Shawna has cancer. I too love her. She taught me violin lessons for awhile, and was always so kind and patient....I needed both :). How is she doing? What a fun trip, I would have beat the system, and not paid for parking too, we love to make em mad :)!! That kids does look like you, you should be taking in a profit from that commercial!
