Thanksgiving 2010

Well another Turkey Day has come and gone. Tables were arranged, plates were filled, faces were stuffed, and belts were loosened, what else can you say? Cristie (the eternal hostess) did a great job as usual in putting things together along with the help of her trusted sister Lori, who despite not knowing jack about can-openers made herself quite useful throughout the whole process. Hailee, Julia, Katie, Erin, and Amy all played important roles and the men did their best to stand clear and let the women do their thing without the least bit of shame or remorse. That's what Thanksgiving is all about right?

Is that Covington doing his impression of "The Thinker"? Nah, not really, very little thought is actually taking place in fact. Covey is merely lost in the magical glow of television.

We can't afford to buy Covey an actual toy train, so he has to make do with what he has lying around. Although it's highly inefficient as a train, I must say it would make for a wild parade.

Hailee and Aunt Cristie hosting the annual "Breaking of the Bread" on Thanksgiving Eve, where the stuffing (or dressing as weirdos call it) is prepared for the next day's festivities. This year's Breaking had a surprise twist as homemade pies were also made.

As has been said many times, "Where bread is to be broken, love is sure to be found in abundance." um...I'm pretty sure Henry Waldo...um...Wittman said that.

And that love helps mend the burnt bridges of past holiday squabbles and malcontent. (I may have taken liberties with this one, but since I wasn't there I had to guess that something went down that Camree didn't like)

With Covey and Ella participating in this year's preparation it's a wonder that no "hidden treasures" were found the following day. At least if there were any unwanted ingredients the eater must have muscled it past the gag reflex cause nothing was mentioned. (I, Julia, thought it was the best tasting stuffing yet; frozen onions, celery leaves, and chunky butter included.)

I got to be honest....this precooked picture does not do justice to the deliciousness that eventually found it's way onto my plate the following day. Almost makes me wonder if the girls just ended up going out and buying the stuffing, but I'll take their word for it. I mean, what else could they have been doing there all night.....

....perhaps DRESSING MY SON UP IN A CHEERLEADING OUTFIT!?!
Yeah, this will be his one and only Breaking after this stunt was brought to my attention.

Why the long face Covington? Well, Julia and I thought it would be funny to whisper to Covey that since the turkey wasn't quite ready that everyone would just have to eat him for dinner.

Believe it or not, this was the happiest of the pictures we got with Covey and his pilgrim party hat. Too bad, Julia did a good job making it. (No, I didn't. It was way too small.) Maybe he was hoping to play the part of Squanto?

We had a great time and even though Covey's emotions ranged from elation to utter madness, I think he enjoyed himself as well. Thanks to the Ellis children and Camree who constantly entertained him (and watching "McQueen show" 4 times in a 24 hour span). In all seriousness we feel very blessed for all we have been given and if showing that gratitude means that once a year we have to eat delicious food until we can't fit another morsel in our mouths.....then so be it!

Ok, I'm done. I just wanted to be a jerk and make you think you had all these comments, get excited, and then feel the supreme disappointment that comes when you realize it's just me.
