End of Summer

We went to the zoo with our friend, Amy and her little boy, Jaron. It was so much fun, especially because Amy makes hilarious faces like the one below.I think this was us on the train ride around the zoo. We'd never been on it before. It was short but fun and Covey had to walk past and touch each train car, creating quite a line behind us.
Our totally awesome friends, the Olsens, who are now in GERMANY!!, spent the day with us on their visit to Utah making that "Good Intentions" video posted previously. This is one of their daughters, Sadie, born with a sprinkler face. It's okay to laugh about it, that's how they cope.
On a hot day with a broken air conditioner damaging our ceiling, Matt came up with an indoor water balloon game for Covey. Those are old Crystal Light canisters making the slide.
I love this picture. Lately, when I wear those little headbands, Covey takes them off of me and tries to put them on his head. After I help him get it on, he'll leave it on all day. I like it. It's not girly, it's sporty.
With our help, Covey rediscovered Mickey Mouse Clubhouse via the computer this time and has become more than a little obsessed. Forget sitting in a chair. That won't do. When there's a Mickey Mouse to be watched, it must be watched closely. At least he's learned how to say "Toodles"... it sounds so cute I'll let him watch one more episode.

I didn't really get any good pics of the Meldrums goodbye, but they're now back in Texas and we miss them already. It was so good to have them here and close enough that I could go see them quite a bit. It took Covey a little while to warm up to them (not the kids, of course) but by the end he was saying "Nick" regularly and we heard "Faye" a few times (the easier of the four names).
Matt's got his latest PA applications submitted to the U, Stanford, and a private school in Arizona. There's also another private school in Pennsylvania that has a late deadline that he can apply to if he doesn't get into the U.
Oh! And we went to an outdoor Dave Matthews concert a few weeks ago with our friends, the Maynes. It was so awesome! It was really super great, so thanks again for the tickets Katie! (And Dad for driving all the way down here to watch Covey!) If anyone's interested in some new DMB music, we loved "You and Me" and "Seven" from his newest album. He is so fun to watch on stage. He's always making these funny facial expressions and doing little dances... and Scattin'! Boy can he scat. ("Oooo kitty likes to scratch" am I right, Nick?) This picture is dorky but we had to send something to Nick to rub it in.
Covey is so good at talking lately. I mean mainly he just jabbers, but when we tell him to say something, he almost always tries and usually sounds pretty good. He's finally calling Matt "Dad". He says "There it is!" a lot. And now we're working on getting him over the thumb-sucking, which is making naptime a struggle. But for some reason at bedtime he doesn't fight me so much. It's like by then he's realized, 'I just gotta wait for her to get outta here and then I can do whatever I want.' Which is true.

Oh my wife likes to ruffle her feathers, doesn't she. Kitty does indeed like to scratch! You are clearly well behind the game if you hadn't heard 'you and me' before the concert. That's flirting with unworthiness to attend. That sprinkler face stuff is getting bad. I hear dozens of people suffer in America, China, Western Europe, Guatemala (your welcome Matt), Belize, South Central Australia, Guam, India, Russia (with the exception of Novosibirsk, which is weird), and Iceland alone. Scary stuff.

So are you trying to break the world record for number of empty crystal light containers? I'm always up for a trash to treasure project so I think I'll start saving mine and blow the kids minds with that water balloon game.
